West Los Angeles Obedience Training Club

Fostering connection between dogs and their families since 1951.

Our mission is to engage and support the community through classes, education, and service programs that promote humane training, responsible dog ownership, and the safe, positive integration of dogs into everyday life.

Our Programs & Services

Through hands-on training classes, enrichment activities, skills testing and competition, social events, and community service programs, we build, support, and celebrate our community.

We offer multi-level progressive training for dogs and their handlers to foster safe, responsible pet ownership. The program reduces behavioral problems, improves public safety, and strengthens the human-animal bond. Our goal is to reduce the number of dog surrenders to shelters through our obedience program.

We bring animal-assisted therapy services to hospitals and care facilities, improving the emotional and physical well-being of patients of all ages.

We provide training and mentoring for those owners who want their pets to become therapy dogs.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

Obedience Trial

We train responsible ownership, ensuring that dogs demonstrate safe and reliable behavior in public settings. We administer multi-level CGC testing on an ongoing basis to award well-trained pups within the community their certificates of accomplishment.

From agility, rally, tricks to nose work, we provide fun and challenging recreational fitness and socialization opportunities for dogs and their handlers. Our program fosters discipline, respect for community rules, mental and physical well-being, and strong human-animal partnerships.

Competition & Testing

CPE Tim

We host three CPE agility trials and fun runs per year, all open to the community. We also host community AKC testing days every year where we offer Tricks and CGC testing (novice to advanced). We offer a mentoring program for those interested in competing in obedience, rally, agility, and more.

Education & Community

We host expert speakers at our meetings and promote our community partners throughout the year. We fundraise on behalf of our community partners and donate 100% of the proceeds to support their missions. We aim to educate the community by sharing information and resources with our members and the public via our website.

West LA Obedience Training Club (WLAOTC) is a fully volunteer-run non-profit organization founded in 1951 to serve the community by empowering dog owners with the knowledge and skills to raise confident, well-mannered companions. Through hands-on training classes, enrichment activities, skills testing and competition, and community service programs, we help dogs and their people thrive together—reducing behavioral issues, enhancing public safety, and strengthening the bond between humans and their four-legged family members.

From puppy manners to therapy dog work, every program we offer serves a simple goal: happier dogs, healthy families, safer neighborhoods, and a more connected community.

Membership is open to all like-minded individuals who wish to join our community. Member applications are reviewed by our entire membership and voted in by our board. Members are required to attend a minimum of two club events per year and are expected to volunteer their time on a committee or supporting an event.

Members get priority enrollment in classes and access to member-only classes. Members-only meetings feature expert speakers plus a chance to socialize with other members. And members have a voice in electing leadership and providing feedback to help shape club programs.
